Abortion . . . Did you know?

Through these past blogs on the abortion issue, I need you to know that I'm only bringing you in on my journey. For some reason, (maybe because it breaks the heart of God?) I feel called to learn more. So I've been researching, trying to learn and remember what I've learned in the past about it. I'm sure in high school social studies we were challenged to take a stand on this important issue. I personally didn't want to see women going to backyard sheds to be poked, prodded, "induced" to abort the life form that was growing inside of them. It made sense to keep these young girls safe by offering this in a hospital setting. Never did I imagine what the next 50 years would look like.

I can't explain this new passion except to say I think this is from the Lord, and He wants me to bring awareness around the subject.

It was at a recent Pro-Life Summit that I learned so much more. Please allow me to share with you some of those discoveries.

Did you know? (I confess, I did not)

  • .4% of abortions are done due to rape and incest*

  • .3% of abortions are done due to the health of mom*

  • 2.2% are done due to health concerns*

  • 1.2% are done due to an abnormality in the baby*

  • the above totals to 4.1%, so why are the other 95.9% of abortions done? This removes the excuse that we need abortion for those cases. That leaves 59,913,000 due to convenience? Or why? (for ease, I'm using 63,000,000, knowing the actual stats are higher than this.

  • In his communication with his constituents, Mark Koran called Saturday, January 28, "a Solemn Day in Minnesota."**

Mark Koran then outlined in his Capitol update, the following amendments as being rejected by the parties;

(1) Abortions performed in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters be done in the hospital

(2) Ensuring doctors do what they can to save the baby's life if it is born alive after a failed abortion.

(3) Using anesthesia for babies after 20 weeks, when we know they can feel pain.** (4) Requiring parental notification before the sterilization procedure on a minor.**

I admit that I don't know anyone who has faced this decision. Nor would I judge them. As a young girl growing up in the 60's and 70's, we wouldn't have known the changes in morality that we have witnessed today.

But if you've struggled with an unplanned pregnancy, I would be interested in hearing your story. I do believe that God can heal the pain in your heart. There is redemption in Jesus.

Please pm me on Facebook, if you would like to share your story. Or comment below.

Hoping to address the confusing language in the Minnesota State Law about abortion in the next blog. As always, thank you for allowing me to share my journey with you.

*Statistics above were taken at the Proudly Pro-Life Summit on 6/15/24; presented by Human Life Alliance and Leadership Institute

Thank you for being willing to address this very difficult issue that so many shy away from. I agree - God’s heart breaks for the preborn never given the chance to live the life He planned for them, and also for the women (and men) who will never know their children this side of eternity. So many broken lives who need our love and understanding, and especially to know the never ending love Father God has for them and the forgiveness and redemption He offers.

Perfectly spoken. I, too believe that God wants to bring healing to all involved.
