"I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice, and cleaving to him; for that means life to you and length of days, that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them."
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Recently I awoke to the words; "Choose life." Not an audible word, but a word spoken into my spirit. It would lead me to read the Scriptures above. This chapter, Deuteronomy 30, is titled; The rewards of repentance. In it, God would discuss blessings and curses, life and death. Much like II Chronicles 7:14, I would read the call to a people about repentance, returning to the LORD, and obedience. When that call is answered, God would promise to restore, have compassion and to bring His children back to Him. His promise holds prosperity in the land, a circumcision of our hearts that would bring upon us a love that would flow between God and His children. It is a beautiful exchange. A remarkable offering from the God of love, peace, hope and joy.
I think about abortion. The ripping of babies limbs from the mother's womb. The murder of the most innocent. Lord, I wonder, is this where the balance lies in this year, 2024? Are you waiting to see how your church, your children respond? Are we in a pivotal place in history?
I don't have to look far to see the issue of abortion on the hearts of men. The commercials, the most talked about conversation in these months leading up to the election. An election that is likely to go down in history.
I'm confused by reports that our government is giving billions of dollars to Planned Parenthood. In another article I read that **Planned Parenthood gives thousands of dollars to support democratic candidates. I realize the importance of truth and how the internet can be a source of lies. But isn't it worth searching this out? Shouldn't we want to know what the truth is? Isn't the issue of life and death important enough for us to try to get to the bottom, to uncover any deception that we have been fed?
Ah, Lord, hear my earnest prayer. Help me, help us, as we wrestle with this choosing of death. Can one person confess the sins of a nation? Will you hear the plea of one? I know I'm not alone. How many hearts are breaking over the loss of life?
Do those aborted babies long to be reconciled to their moms? Are they in your presence, praying for us to stand for righteousness? Does their blood cry out to you begging that your people would take action against this atrocity?
And what about those precious moms, how are they holding up? These ones that you also love. Your heart, O God, longs to heal each. For your mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22) I pray that you would bend down and hear the cries of the moms who found themselves in this nightmare. For you alone know the circumstances of each one. You know what they were facing. You know. Bring them back to your heart, Lord. May your divine exchange stretch to each one.
Father God, I repent of my part in neglecting this issue for far too many years. I pray that you would speak to the hearts of your children. Convict us, where we need to make changes. Put us on a path of correction. Call your children, your church, your bride, to obedience. We want the blessings that you speak of in Deuteronomy chapter 30. We look for restoration. We want you to be in the most high place in this country of America and in this state of Minnesota. How do we get back to you? I pray that your mercy and grace would still extend to us. I pray for strength and might to stand on your principles. To choose life!
In your precious name, Jesus, we ask, seek, and pray. Amen
