Our journey in this short series continues with John 20:20. “When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.”

Did Jesus KNOW His friends would need proof. He had lived among them, they witnessed many miracles, they were His followers. Why do you think Jesus was compelled to show His friends His hands and side? Was this to prove once again, who He was?

John says they were glad when they saw the Lord! As if the presence of peace wasn’t enough, Jesus offered them his hands and his side, exposing the scars He had endured. I wondered what they looked like, the hands and side of the resurrected Lord. I’m reminded of Isaiah 49:16; “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.” Could this be a prophetic Scripture of the nails that would hold Jesus to the cross?

What is the "proof" that you need today? What could Jesus show you that would settle the issues of your heart? In this passage Jesus willingly offers to show His friends proof of who He is. Let Him prove His love to you. Imagine that Jesus shows up for you unexpectedly, what would He reveal to you as His peace permeates the atmosphere?

Dear Lord, we seek your face. We want to live in your presence and experience all that you have for each of us. Show us who you are! Bring us into a deeper place with you. Entertain us with your greatness. We love you and thank you for being who you are -- Son of God, Prince of Peace, the sacrificial Lamb of God. In your mighty name, we give you praise! Amen.

Jesus knew that His disciples would need the Holy Spirit to lead them in the days ahead.
