As part of celebrating the 250th birthday of our country, President Trump invited America's great religious communities to pray for our nation and for our people. "So as we chart our course for the next 250 years, let us rededicate ourselves to one nation under God." (President Trump, Iowa, July 3, 2025)
When I read a post by Karin Miller inviting Christians to pray for our nation, I knew I had to be there. She and her group had reserved space in Cass Gilbert Park near the Administration Building to host a time of prayer and intercession to mirror the rededication that was taking place at our National Capitol in Washington, DC, on May 17, 2026.
I met Karin Miller at the Child Protection League Conference in April. She was one of the vendors representing Be the Change, Faith in Action. She was on fire and purpose as she urged folks like me to become involved in the change we hope to see in our government. You can enjoy her posts on substack at karinmiller.substack.com.
We had a deeply powerful and blessed time gathering with others who want to see God invited back into our country, our schools, and our communities!
Mike and I were so encouraged to pray in small groups, especially alongside a wonderful family who traveled about 2 hours with their 5 children just to be there. Hearing their children pray was incredibly moving.
We spent time in repentance, prayed over our legislators and senators during their final session, and read a Declaration over Minnesota. And as the shofars blew, the wind began to pick up—a beautiful reminder of the Holy Spirit at work.
The evening ended in The Blessing, a song written by Chris Brown, Cody, Carnes, Kari Jobe and Steven Furtick. We sang it as a benediction over Minnesota.
May this remind us to pray. For God honors our prayers. May they rise up before Him as sweet incense. And may God bless Minnesota and America!
